restraining orders (protective orders)
Restraining orders, are a critical legal tool in the context of interpersonal violence. These court-issued directives are designed to protect victims from further harm and harassment by restricting the abusive partner’s contact or proximity to the survivor. They can prohibit the abuser from approaching the victim, their home, workplace, or children. Restraining orders are an important step in providing immediate relief and safety for survivors of interpersonal violence, helping them regain a sense of control over their lives. However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that they are just one piece of the larger puzzle in addressing abuse. Effective enforcement, comprehensive support services, and community awareness are equally important in ensuring the safety and well-being of survivors.
Restraining order forms can be obtained at the Wallowa County Courthouse or contact one of our advocates who can provide the form, answer questions and assist you in filling out and filing a form. An advocate can also accompany you to court for a hearing.
